Octane VS Petrol

Fuel is known as the blood of the car. Without fuel, the car can not be run. In our country, most of the Cars lovers have a common question. The question is which fuel is better for my Car? Petrol or octane.

Generally, there is no difference between Petrol and octane both are gasoline. And the chemical building is also the same (C8H18). Both help the Car to run.

Difference Between Petrol and Octane

Petrol, octane or gasoline has an international rating called RON or (Research Octane Number). It started from 82 to 92. The quality of petrol improves along with an increasing number. According to our car engine petrol is perfect. But in our country, it is difficult to get standard quality petrol. And lower quality petrol can make some serious damage to your cars.

Petrol

Lower quality petrol creates problems in burning, as a result, it puts extra pressure on the engine and reduces the speed of the car. It makes a jammed-in spark plug, therefore, creating problems in sparking. It also increased fuel costs. On the other hand, octane is also gasoline or fuel. But octane RON is better than petrol. So, it burns quickly compare to petrol. And provides speed and a smooth ride.

Octane

Now you may think that octane is the right fuel for your car. But dear car lover as I said above our car engine is petrol friendly engine. So, if you use octane it will put extra pressure on your car engine. It will provide speed but will reduce the durability of the engine. But octane can be helpful for the occasional car rider. Their car remains in stop mode for a long time. In that case, the engine becomes cold and makes a problem with sparking, as a result, it creates a problem with engine start. Octane is known quick burning quality fuel. So if occasional car rider uses octane it will be better for them.

What happens if you put 93 gas instead of 87

Let’s say your manufacturer recommends you use 93 and fill it up with 87; now, you’ll have a problem. If you do this often, you may hear your engine knocking and valve chatter because the fuel won’t burn right. Both of these actions mean that your engine will endure damage, and you’ll need a mechanic visit. So, it is best to stick to premium gas for premium users. But if you can’t find premium gas in your area, then you can use regular gas instead. Modern cars have an inbuilt engine computer that will prevent knock and engine damage in the long run. It is not advisable to use regular gas frequently; only use it when you have no other options left.

Some important suggestion

using a lower octane rating than what is recommended by your manufacturer could cause damage to your car’s engine. Lower-octane fuel will result in knocking and prevent your vehicle from meeting its stated fuel economy. If you keep using lower-octane fuel for a prolonged period, you will have a damaged engine and emission control system. But if you use a higher-octane gas than your car needs, it won’t do any harm, nor will it benefit your car.
